Your Guide to Chinatown in Brisbane

What’s in Chinatown in Brisbane?

Brisbane’s Asian food scene puts the ‘yum’ in Yum Cha!

Built in 1987, architects from Guangzhou came to Brisbane to design the city’s Chinatown. It’s a relatively new Chinatown!

Since its construction, it has been a well-loved spot for locals…and it was also used as a movie set!

In 1995, it was used in a Jackie Chan movie. The movie ‘Strike’ was filmed here, and the streets provided a set for a scene where a car collides with a brick wall. This wild crash scene brought this area to fame!

  • Mr Vain Brisbane

Golden Palace Restaurant

Golden Palace is one of Brisbane’s well-loved restaurants in Chinatown. The Golden Palace is a large hall venue and restaurant that is well-suited for big events. Visit the restaurant, though, and you’ll be treated to a succulent Chinese meal extending from BBQ Pork, Honey Chicken, and even Live Seafood.

Longwang

For tasty crispy squid and signature wagyu beef dishes, check out Longwang. The restaurant is named after the Chinese dragon king of the ocean. The name of this restaurant is highly relevant to Chinese mythology, and their food is nothing short of legendary!

Using fresh produce from local areas, this seafood-heavy menu promises plenty of flavour. From 4 to 6, they even have ‘Dragon Hour’ – check it out for a good deal on their menu items.

Mr Vain Brisbane

This Pan-Asian restaurant is set in a moody laneway setting. The wine list is carefully selected, and their dishes combine a fusion of lip-smacking flavours. Check out their whipped kingfish Chinese doughnut, or their Grilled prawns and black garlic!

Their dishes are delicate and flavoursome, and it’s all paired with a dimly lit 90s-esque venue that takes a snapshot from New York’s Chinatown. If you’re a fiend for international Pan-Asian cuisine and atmospheric dining spaces, then Mr Vain is the spot for you.

Sunnybank (or the ‘Little Asia’ of Brisbane)

Another suburb of Brisbane for great Asian food is called Sunnybank. This bustling suburb has plenty of places to go for a steaming bowl of tasty noodles, dumplings, curries, wontons, bubble tea and buns.

For more relaxed, low-key Asian dining, check out the restaurants in Sunnybank. It’s the most popular spot for Asian food in Brisbane! With multistorey buildings that are ram-packed full of guests, with wall-to-wall seating, you’ll have to get there early to avoid disappointment! Top venues include Luo’s Place or Terrific Noodles. Luo’s Place is a popular hotpot restaurant, while Terrific Noodles is a local favourite.
