Welcome yourself to the third-largest sand island in the world.
Moreton Island has beautiful beaches, ocean views, and lush green rainforests. Ideally, you will want about one to three days on Moreton Island. You’ll find a lot of travellers love going to this island for a quick weekend getaway.
Moreton Island is perfect for anyone! If you’re someone who loves an adventure and even if you’re someone who wants to relax. There’s a range of different activities to suit everyone’s needs.
Dolphin feeding
This is the most popular activity you can do when on Moreton Island at sunset. These beautiful wild bottlenose dolphins come to shore at sunset to get fed. You’ll have to get close to the dolphins but it’s a great opportunity.
Snorkel the Tangalooma Wrecks
Over 60 years ago, 15 ships were purposely sunk off the coast to create a break wall. Now over the years marine life and coral have made the ships their home.
It’s something different and amazing to see as you’re snorkelling to see these ships used as a home for these colourful creatures.
Sand tobogganing
Go flying down some giant sand dunes on Moreton Island. Sand tobogganing is a fun sport you can join in for a thrill. You may even reach speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour as you’re going down these sand dunes!
Whale watching
Between June to October in winter, thousands of humpback whales swim by Moreton Island. You can see the whales a bit closer on a whale watching cruise as they migrate to warmer waters.
Tours
There is a range of tours you can book to go to Moreton Island for the day.
This one-day tour gives you the freedom to do what you’d like once you arrive at Tangalooma Resort on the island. You can upgrade your booking to do other activities before you go to the Marine Education Centre.
Or there is another day tour which includes dolphin viewing and one activity. You’ll go to Tangalooma Resort on Moreton Island before doing your activity. You can do marine discovery, sand tobogganing, snorkelling, or whale watching. Then to finish off your day you’ll go to the Marine Education Centre.
Both tours will include pick up and drop off at a few locations in Brisbane!
If you only have a day, going to Moreton Island will be worth it! But if you can do two to three days, you’ll be able to see and do more on the beautiful island.
