When it rains, it pours and Brisbane can get a lot of rain, stopping you from doing outdoor activities. Luckily there are plenty of other things you can do over the rainy weekend in the city.
For a lot of the year, Brisbane is how you expect it, warm and sunny and perfect for doing everything outdoors. But the city does get the rainy season, also known as the wet season. This is when it has a high chance to be raining, making it tricky to do some outdoor activities. Though if you don’t mind getting wet, you can still do plenty of outdoor things.
But thankfully for those who want to avoid the rain, there are still many things you can do or see while in Brisbane over the weekend.
1. Visit the museum or art gallery
Brisbane has a few museums and art galleries where you can spend a few hours to avoid the weather.
Queensland Museum has a range of different exhibitions, including some limited exhibitions! You can spend around three hours checking out the museum and there is even a cafe so you can grab a bite to eat.
Another museum is the Museum of Brisbane which showcases Brisbane’s culture, history, and art all displayed in exhibitions.
If you want to view local and international exhibitions, Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art are two riverside galleries. The galleries host limited art exhibitions, tours, workshops, and even movies.
2. Spend a few hours shopping
You can’t go wrong with a bit of shopping, especially when it’s raining! Brisbane has some great shopping centres to visit including Queen Street Mall and Uptown. Both shopping centres are bursting with shops and even independent boutiques.
3. Check out the Planetarium
The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium is in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and is a great way to spend a few hours to avoid the rain.
The Planetarium has the cosmic skydome which projects visuals inside the dome. There is also the display zone with a gallery which includes exhibits, models, interactive displaces and all things to do with space.
If the rain clears up a bit after your visit, you can check out the Botanic Gardens!
4. Eateries
From fine dining to casual foods or desserts, Brisbane has some of the best places to eat.
For all things to do with fine dining, check out Tama, Quarterdeck, or Bacchus Restaurant. But if you’re looking for more casual places, you’re best to go to Sunshine Mediterranean Eatery, Ronnie’s Clubhouse, or Italia Lane.
For those sweet tooths, you won’t regret visiting Sonder Dessert, Sweet Tooth Gelato & Desserts or BCC Dessert and Cake.
Even though rain can be unavoidable during the wet season, we hope the weather clears up! Brisbane is best when it’s warm and the sun is up so you can walk along the beach and enjoy being outside.
